What is Graffiti?

Graffiti has existed for thousands of years and the word originates from the Latin meaning ´scratch´, appearing in it´s first form as markings upon cave walls. This may be an interesting fact but in it´s modern day style, applied to private and public property, can cause a serious quality of life issue to those living and working around the affected areas.

Some of the graffiti that is commissioned and applied to large walls and subways in the form of murals can be appreciated as street art. However, the repeated spraying of a name or logo that can be applied rapidly and often in the same locality, known as ´tagging´, is not welcome. It can be offensive, degrades the surrounding area and encourages further vandalism and crime.
